Italiane trials MHP services with Sofia DigitalSofia
Digital and Telespazio enable secure smart card-based services for DTT
distribution

Poste
Italiane has concluded a successful trial of smart card-based services on
digital terrestrial television. Sofia Digital supplied Sofia Backstage® Browser Platform as the MHP application
technology used by the consortium consisting of Poste Italiane, Telespazio and
RAI. Smart card plug-in for the Browser
Platform was used to enable authentication of the users with their personal
PostePay cards.
The trial services included Certitel and
Bollettino. Certitel is a service where users can request official government
certificates. Bollettino can be used to pay utility bills. The PostePay card
was used for both services to authenticate the user and encrypt the return
channel connection so that security and privacy requirements were met.
In the
consortium, Sofia
was the technology provider, Telespazio the project manager, and the Poste
services were verified by RAI and broadcast on RAI Utile channel.

Sofia
Backstage® Browser Platform is an interactive
service platform for MHP, OCAP and Mobile TV networks. It powers a range of
different value adding interactive services, including digital teletext,
enhanced TV, operator portals and service catalogs.

services can be seen at the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, 8-12 September, on Sofia Digital
stand 2.101.
