  • Sofia Digital helps Mediatotal lead the way in Norwegian interactive digital TV

Helsinki, Finland / Bergen, Norway, September 9, 2005

Sofia Digital Ltd. and Mediatotal AS have entered into a cooperation targeting the Norwegian digital terrestrial TV market. Mediatotal is a leader in interactive TV in Norway by operating the teletext services of major TV channels. By cooperating with Sofia Digital Mediatotal is getting ready to launching interactive services in Norwegian DTT based on MHP, the standard for interactivity chosen in Norway.

The cooperation between Sofia Digital and Mediatotal includes the delivery of Sofia Backstage® Starter Kit for MHP for Mediatotal’s development use. Initially, Mediatotal are aiming to develop a digital teletext service and a classified ads service.
Sofia Backstage® Starter Kit for MHP includes all necessary software and hardware for realizing a complete digital TV playout environment with full capabilities for broadcast- and return channel-based MHP services. Among the key features important for Mediatotal are the MHP authoring system which enables the creation, management and operation of fully dynamic MHP services based on content template architecture. The ability to easily test and demonstrate the services with real MHP set-top boxes and playout is also essential.

Ms. Camilla Andersson, CEO of Mediatotal, said: “The cooperation with Sofia Digital allows Mediatotal to establish a leading position in interactive services for Norwegian digital terrestrial TV. Our track record in teletext services for NRK, TV Norge and TV3 is such that we want to be ready for the future when digital terrestrial in Norway will take off next year. Sofia Digital is the perfect partner for us in helping us ramp up our MHP capabilities.”

The Norwegian DTT launch is very important for the whole Nordic interactive television market. In Mediatotal we have found a great partner with whom we can develop interactive services for the Norwegian TV audience.”, stated Mr. Olli Väätäinen, CEO of Sofia Digital.

The Sofia Backstage® Starter Kit for MHP is show-cased at the IBC 2005 convention in Amsterdam, September 9-13, at Sofia Digital’s booth 2.101.
