Complete Technology Chain for Value-adding Services for Mobile TV Shown for the First Time
Barcelona, Spain. February 16, 2008. Sofia Digital unveils a ground-breaking addition to its mobile TV offering at the world-leading mobile industry gathering Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Sofia Stage® Mobile TV Client is a Java-based client solution conforming to the new JSR 272 specification. JSR 272 extension to J2ME allows a single application to work across different compatible handsets and gain control of the broadcast TV implementation. This paves the way for operator controlled mobile TV clients which provide a uniform and branded user experience across devices and allows new revenue-maximizing features to be deployed.
Sofia Stage® Mobile TV Client integrates broadcast TV functionality with unicast video service delivery over 3G. A selection of value-adding interaction modules can be integrated to Sofia Stage® Mobile TV Client, including advertising, portals, teletext and visualized radio. User interface is fully customizable and has the flexibility to take full use of operators’ existing portfolio of mobile value-adding services.
Sofia Stage® Mobile TV Client is complemented with demonstrations of Sofia Digital’s full suite of mobile TV solutions. These include transmissions of two live DVB-H networks:
- Citywide interactive Mobile TV demonstrations with Abertis Telecom: Sofia Backstage® Playout Manager and Sofia Backstage® Service Manager are integrated to Abertis Telecom’s DVB-H headend. Services include an interactive music show The Voice, which allows user participation by SMS votes to determine the next music video. Visualized radio services are demonstrated together with Catalan Radio and The Voice. These services are examples of compelling made-to-mobile interactive video services which are easily and cost-efficiently produced with Sofia Digital’s solutions. Service Manager is also used to automatically ingest ESG programming information for the Abertis Telecom’s network.
- Sofia Backstage® Starter Kit for DVB-H: a mini head-end designed for laboratory and trial use. The Started Kit produces DVB-H services and a signal ready to be received with a DVB-H device. During the MWC 2009 the Starter Kit demo transmission is broadcasted on Sofia stand 1G03, including TV and radio channels as well as interactive service examples such as mobile teletext, service portal, voting and chat. Starter Kit also includes an efficient OMA Bcast ESG server.
In addition to compelling product demonstrations, Sofia Digital’s experts will be available on stand 1G03 in Hall 1 for discussing how to make mobile TV deployments a success.
